What does the absolute perfect modern, sustainable home design project look like to you? You may be picturing a brand-new build that starts with nothing but an empty patch of grass — after all, the greenest buildings tend to be the newest buildings, designed from the very beginning with sustainability in mind. But this is not typically the case — many sustainable building endeavors are based around existing structures.

The operation to remove them was so painful that men would often put it off for years, only having it as a last resort. Bold and clearly expressed, his reflections are as relevant today as they were nearly 70 years ago when the book was first published. Anxieties, responsibilities, technology—countless things compete for our attention in any given moment.

Whether it’s a dream home sketched on a napkin or a detailed blueprint crafted by professionals, the journey of building a house from the ground up is both exhilarating and daunting. You say “mountain fixer inspiration.” That hone was 3x the size and 2x the price of my primary residence before the reno, so it was already quite nice imho. I bought this book before I worked with Niki and I’m so happy to say that the book is as lovely as she is. Before Brian broke the news that Scandinavian wasn’t his thing (ahem), I referenced this book for the main inspiration for the house. Since we made the “rustic” shift, it’s still applicable because it’s full of stunning photos of Scandi chalets. The curated eye and sophisticated yet warm home features make me want to be a better person. Their book, even though it’s years old, feels fresh, modern and timeless. NINETYFIVE CHEERS FOR THIS BRAND, THEIR DAILY CONTENT, THE PEOPLE BEHIND IT AND THE BOOKS THEY PUBLISH. It’s full of more real homes that, ahem, are not “shacks” in any sense of the word but instead have so much inspiration and ideas that take the fussiness out of design. It’s not totally boho but instead builds a lovely bridge between relaxed and cohesive. In their first book, Southern California–based architecture and interior design duo Odom and Kate Stamps take readers inside their picturesque projects.
The author illustrates an incredibly broad range of sustainable tweaks and changes — from the minuscule to the massive. If you’re ready to boost your home’s eco-green factor, whether in a small or big way, Eco-House Book may be the perfect place to start the planning process. Barbara's experience, knowledge and common sense style of lecturing have made her a popular and sought after speaker in Australia and internationally. This easy to read book is packed with information that enables the reader to intelligently embrace a lifestyle that works with the body's amazing ability to heal itself, when given the right conditions. The body can self heal by its very design, and you can design a program that will enable the body to do the very thing it was made to do- heal itself.

Both deal with futuristic issues, although neither novel is science fiction in the usual sense. She has an uncanny ability to capture the essence of the plot line and to put it into a striking visual context. I liked her covers so much that I retained here to design my web site.
I’m saving the other half for after I finish the first stack 🙂 Also…. I feel like my face is zoned out and zombie like when I’m on a device and more present and engaged looking, therefore more interruptable and available to the family when I’m reading a book. Adapted from a speech she delivered at Tulane University’s 2018 Commencement, this short illustrated book blends Ward’s personal story with a broader message of persistence. She describes the limited opportunities available to her mother and grandmother as poor Black women living in the South. As a young person, Ward charted her own course to Stanford University, only later realizing how factors of intergenerational poverty and trauma narrowed what was possible for those before her.
More and more architects are being hired to design new adaptations for already-existing buildings and homes. This growing movement to reuse buildings presents a whole new range of design challenges and opportunities. How can an architect make the best use of the building’s structure, while still upping the green ante? Old Buildings, New Designs uses a selection of case studies to contrast new construction with the old, and provides powerful insights into the challenges presented by each, as well as how to overcome them. When we think of green building, we typically think of construction elements like insulation, windows, flooring, and lighting. But what’s happening outside is just as important as what’s happening inside — and no green building project would be complete without an emphasis on sustainable landscaping.
Certainly, one of the most striking aspects of hypnosis is the powerful influence of the mind (via the hypnotist's suggestions) over the functioning of the body. Esdaile was by no means the only physician to use hypnosis, but from the mid-nineteenth century, the practice was superseded by the use of chemical anaesthetics. But there were still some areas of medicine where the practice continued — dentistry, in particular. Even now, some dentists still use hypnosis, especially in cases where a person’s medical history precludes the use of an anaesthetic. Word began to spread about this amazing surgeon who could remove the massive tumours in 20 minutes without pain or after effects, and soon patients began to flock to Esdaile’s hospital near Calcutta.
Over 1,000 large color drawings and photos, plus fun quizzes. This book also includes sections on designing building enclosures, indoor air quality, choosing heating and cooling systems, and how to ventilate, heat, and cool different types of buildings. I did several drafts of my own, looked at what some of my colleagues had done, I also looked at lots of other cover artists but I really feel that Karrie’s work is head and shoulders above them.
